The 10-track collection (see the full artwork and track listing below) was written by frontman Alex Turner, with production coming from James Ford. It's their seventh studio album and it's expected to arrive on Oct. The album is flawless from the opening Echoplex on 'Standin' In The Rain' to the closing fade of the EXCELLENT 'Mystery'. This album boasted Billboards 3 Song of the Year, 'Must Be Love'. He brought not only his virtuoso ability on guitar, but his talens as a songwriter, and singer. With a new song, that means a new album is en route as well, with the record simply titled The Car. Bang, was the first James Gang album to feature Tommy Bolin. But it’s not a pattern we’re going to get used to as a band.” He then added, "We like being in the studio.
The drums, bass, and guitar are never buried in the mix and everything is clearly recorded.In a 2019, drummer Matt Helders revealed that he expected a quicker turnaround between albums (there was a five year break between 2013's AM and 2018's Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino), stating, “I think that break was based on various circumstances and that was sort of what we needed at the time. What you do get is the sound of a power trio sounding more powerful than ever. As the liner notes of James Gang Rides Again dictate, these tracks are “Made Loud To Be Played Loud” and you don’t expect, and won’t find, much in the way of stage depth or air around the instruments. Keep in mind there’s little subtlety when it comes to these songs. The music demands to be played loud, and the fine mastering by Kevin Gray allows you to turn it up as much as your ears and system allow without any signs of stress from the vinyl. With the exception of one track, The Best of the James Gang was assembled from analog tape and sounds outstanding. The band was formed in 1966 by drummer Jim. The four cuts from James Gang Rides Again comprise the strongest numbers here, and the sharp instrumental work on display will likely make you wonder why Fox and Peters never gained wider fame. As such, The Best of the James Gang is indeed the best way to hear James Gang. James Gang continued to tour and record after Walsh’s departure, but it was never the same.
